I can't quite wrap my mind around Vladimir Putin, a former KGB agent, paying his respects at Solzhenitsyn's funeral. What a strange idea.

Agreed. It's a bit like an old submarine movie, where the two captains salute at the end as one goes down with his ship.

Maybe he was making sure Solzhenitsyn was really dead.
