watchmen trailer
I love the Watchmen graphic novel to death, and while I have high, high hopes for the movie (yep, I'm a total idiot and I should be shot) the trailer did absolutely nothing for me. I don't get it. The story is really good and there are a lot of ways to use it to sell the movie, and they make it look like a really generic action movie. I mean, sure, it's pretty, but I don't think it would have sold me on seeing the movie if I didn't know what it was all about. It's probably just a teaser, I'm thinking? I dunno.

Anyway, it's available here if you haven't seen it.

Update! Okay, upon further review, the shot of the Comedian smiling after he just roasted someone with a flamethrower is kind of bad ass. It's growing on me.

On the one hand, I was impressed by how faithful each frame of the teaser was to the graphic. On the other, I still think it's very likely they've screwed it up. Maybe it's the literalism of "watchmen" in the title graphic. (No need to shoot you, the film will probably be punishment enough.)

Yeah, the way I could positively ID each shot in the trailer to something happening in the graphic novel was nice. I'm gonna let myself be disappointed on this, I suspect.

I'm excited, and yet ready to be disappointed. Sigh.

Billy Corgan's singing didn't do much to excite me. Nice that they used a song that was already on a soundtrack for one of the shittiest Batman films (http://www.amazon.com/Batman-Robin-Original-Soundtrack/dp/B000002NG0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1216757605&sr=8-3).

I thought the recycling of a song written specifically for a comic book movie was somewhat appropriate (in an amusing way.)

NEEDS MORE RORSCHACH.

I can't decide whether I should reread the print version before the movie release or if it would just make me that much more disappointed by the flick.
